DO YOU NEED A BAND
If you are looking for a live jazz band to provide background music or to entertain the guests at your wedding, event, corporate, promotion, party, then Liverpooljazz has all the contacts with the very best of talent in the Northwest of England. We can provide quality musicians to add that touch of class to your event. This can be from a duet or trio or a full band providing music in any jazz genre, from smooth modern to dixieland traditional. We've even organised bands to play at funerals. We'll select the right band for the job who can play discreetly in the background or provide a proper entertainment with a singer. Try and give us as much notice as possible and we can come up with a combination to suit the occasion and your budget. And we won't let you down. Contact us at info@liverpooljazz.org and let us have some details. We'll do the rest.
LIVERPOOLJAZZ MONTHLY RADIO PROGRAMME
Next programme Monday February 6th 2012
On the first Monday of each month Liverpooljazz presents a two hour radio jazz programme on LCR, the Liverpool Community Radio station. We play great jazz classics, easy listening jazz and chat and inform listeners about what's going on in live jazz performance around Merseyside, bring you up to date with local and regional jazz festivals and events and round up the programme with interviews with local jazz musicians or organisers and play their own music. We also feature our own giglist which is probably the only one of its type exclusively covering live jazz around Merseyside
The programme goes out live online between 2pm and 4pm on the first Monday of each month and then the same programme gets repeated at 2pm and 2am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And then on Saturdays and Sundays at 10pm to 12midnight, thereafter throughout the month until we do the next programme. (these are all UK times)
You can only hear the programme on a computer or a smartphone. Go to tunein.com then key in LCR. Remember, if you tune in at any other times than those stated, you will hear someone else's programme on the station!!
People are now telling us they plug their smartphone into their car system and listen to us while they're driving. A great way of passing a two hour journey!

LIVERPOOLJAZZ PRESENT THEIR ANNUAL AWARD AT LIPA GRADUATION CEREMONY
Recognising the importance of music and jazz education in the region, once again Liverpooljazz was delighted to make its annual presentation to two graduates who, in the opinion of their tutors, showed the most promise in their music studies at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Here are the biographies of the two students. Click the arrows above on this notice board to find the photograph of the ceremony.
JORGEN BERG SVELA
Born in Oslo, Norway on 12th of March 1988, Jørgen Berg Svela started playing guitar at the age of 12. However being involved in sports, youth politics and theatre as well, it was not until he enrolled at the Trøndertun Jazz Course in 2007 and met Gunnar Andreas Berg (guitar teacher at the prestigious Jazz Conservatoire in Trondheim) that the picture became clear. From that year on his passion for music, and his passion for jazz has been his absolute focus. He received the “Exceptional Peformance Award” at Winter Park Jazz Festival in Colorado in 2008 with his jazz quartet Svelophone, and was awarded the Arts Scholarship from his Region in Norway the same year. In 2008 he also accepted a place at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, hoping that it could nourish his taste for different styles of music, and he was right. Though LIPA mainly focuses on popular music, teachers such as Steve Berry, Jim Faulkner and Dominic Schirmer have helped Jørgen develop his improvisation skills and gain a deeper insight in to his instrument from a harmonic and rhythmical point of view. The years at LIPA were filled with a lot of projects and a lot of practicing, and ended with the very pleasant and surprising news that he had (together with fellow graduate and guitarist Sjur Husom Vonen) been awarded the Liverpooljazz Award “in recognition of his Jazz Study and performance”. Being a fresh graduate Jørgen is currently keeping busy both as a session player for Charlotte O’Connor, Jonas Alaska and Mikhael Paskalev, a co-composer and guitarist for Tibi & her cello and a songwriter in his own projects Constructors Collective and The Bright Size. jorgensvela@gmail.com
SJUR HUSOM VONEN
Born in Tromsø, Norway in 1989. At an early age he discovered an interest for music, singing in choirs and playing the clarinet. a year in Oxford in 2002 was where he first picked up the guitar and would play with local musicians at a blues jam were he discovered the joys of improvisation. After moving back to Norway, Sjur joined the Tromsø youth big band gaining valuable experience within the field of jazz by performing around northern Norway, Russia and Denmark playing at jazz festivals. In 2008, after completing a high school degree in music, Sjur moved to Liverpool to attend the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, LIPA. Since then he has played and performed with a wide range of artists including fellow graduate Jørgen Berg Svela and toured Spain, England, and Norway. After graduating in June 2011 and being presented with the Liverpooljazz Award, Sjur is now staying in the Liverpool area to work on a variety of projects as a freelance musician. sjurhv@googlemail.com
